The Dunwells and SHEL - Follow the Road (LIVE)

My most favorite emerging band of all sisters known as SHEL (see one of SHEL's videos here) hooked up with the band of brothers known The Dunwells in Memphis at the Folk Alliance International conference. The video/lighting sucks, but the music is a delight.
Enjoy! GC

Bridgette Mcwilliams - Fire (Remix)

A very tasty soul song that I heard via Gavin Christopher, mentioned in the post below this one. Trying to figure out what Gavin did on this track. Can hear his voice in the background. He may have played a songwriting and production roll too. GC

ZANA.M

Came across Zana.M from a old friend, Gavin Christopher. Gavin is one of those gifted cats who is one of the most serious soul singers you'll ever see live. He is also a great songwriter whose reputation goes back to the days of writing and co-writing songs for great groups like Rufus & Chaka Khan. I got to know Gavin when I shot the China Club Pro Jams back in the 1990's and he was lead vocalist in the group, Jack Mack and the Heart Attack. Gavin never stops working and writing. Here is one of his current collaborations with ZANA.M of Tokyo.

Billy Preston

Billy Preston wrote this song with two other writers, and he was the first to record it and release it, just before Joe Cocker covered and released it slightly later in the same year and was credited for making the song famous. This recording by Billy Preston is such a beautiful heartfelt authentic recording. It was the 6th track on Billy's 11th record, The Kids & I, released in 1974.

It was such a cool thing to film Billy Preston live, performing at the China Club pro jams in the 1990's, where I was the exclusive videographer. I have some dope ass footage. The dude was full of rare energy that always brought the room to higher life. Will post at some point. Stay tuned.

Peace Love Groove,
GC

Sara Bareilles - Gonna Get Over You

I hate nepotism, unless of course, we are talking about one of my friends. Ha Ha.... Sara Bareilles is not just a friend of mine, she is one of my customers too.... And, I love her and all of her music. AND..... She has a great sense of humor and is super duper humble and cool, as is evident in the video.

Salt Petal - an indie living room recoding in the raw

Came across indie music video producer Elliot Glass on YouTube a while back and immediately loved his films of LA indie bands shot in what seems to be various living rooms. He has amassed numerous of great recordings. His crew at Little Videos records the sound beautifully and the photography/video work is pretty darned good and always fits.

Steely Dan

MusicLoad presents Steely Dan - Countdown to Ecstasy

When I was a 10 years old, I asked for this record for a birthday or Christmas and my great grandmother went to the store to buy it and changed her mind. She told my mother that the album cover contained pornography. When I heard that I wasn't getting that record and nobody would tell me what pornography was, I really wanted to have that record even more. I collected enough pop bottles to trade in to buy that record, and became addicted to this obscure form of pornography known as Steely Dan. This song is just one of my favorites on the record. In fact I love them all and could scat every riff, as a kid, and still can. This record went a long way toward shaping my love for music. gc

Happy 18th Birthday To Nikki Yanofsky

Been following this young lady for a while. She is a real artist who can handle some very serious music. Nikki Yanofsky is gifted. She has that "it" thing. She covers multiple genres of music and especially love that she is helping keep real jazz music alive.

Best wishes to Miss Yanofsky for a fantastic birthday and wonderful year ahead.

Oumou Sangaré'

Oumou Sangaré' of the Republic of Mali in Africa takes me to another dimension when I turn it up, close my eyes and lay back. The music is authentic, resonating something deeply soulful and might just provide psychic restoration if that's what you need.
