MusicLoad is very pleased to present the soulful voice of MT Jones and his song titled Why I Cry, from his debut album titled Joy.
MT Jones stated the following about his song: “‘Why I Cry’ is ultimately a song about loss. When you lose someone, the truth is, they never really go away. They stay with you, in memories, in moments—and that’s something beautiful. That’s really what the song is about.”

MUSIC VIDEO PRODUCTION CREDITS: Directed & edited by Ben Gladwin Directors: "sometimes it takes a lot of chipping away at something to get it vibing. This was not one of those. This came together in an unbelievably fast amount of time. We'd done a casual amount of prep work getting props, camera and set to look era appropriate, and the rest just fell off the dome for both of us I'd say"
LYRICS: When I had you I took my life for granted When I had you I carried love around When I had you I never thought I’d lay it down When I had you I couldn’t count the hours When I had you Time went by too fast When I had you I just assumed the moment would last
Ooooo This is my Waterloo I’ve got no more to loose Oooooo I don’t think I can do Another day without you Thats why I cry Tears that will never dry I’ve lost that light Light in your eyes Thats why I cry Tears that will never dry And they’ll keep on spilln’ over ’Til I find some closure Thats why I cry When I had you I didn’t beg or borrow When I had you The world was evergreen When I had you Tomorrow always smiled at me. I never felt the cold when I had you I never felt alone When I had you I never thought that you would go Thats why I cry Tears that will never dry I’ve lost that light Light in your eyes Thats why I cry Tears that will never dry And they’ll keep on spilln’ over ’Til I find some closure Thats why I cry Cry
I don’t think I can do another thing without you Another thing -----------------

Mike Finnigan, the legendary keyboardist, Hammond B3 player and vocalist, has recorded and/or toured with a pretty heavy list of artists from 1968 when he helped Jimi Hendrix the record Electric Ladyland album, playing organ, through to his recording and touring with artists such as Etta James, Joe Cocker, Crosy Stills & Nash, Tracy Chapman, Taj Mahal and dozens and dozens of others.
The following recording of Mike Finnigan, from 1973, clarifies a point that Mike Finnigan has that "it" thing and is definitely one of the most soulful singers on the planet. The song is titled Hard Times. It was originally written and performed by Ray Charles. (music starts at the 18 second point - please be patient)

I didn't make it this far Just to make it this far This is part of the cycle This the part when the flower starts to bloom after rain And gets the nutrients it needs to grow again This the part when the sun sets And the night time starts to overload your brain But the sun will always rise in the morning I didn't make it this far (I didn't make it this far) Just to make it this far (Just to make it this far) I didn't work this damn hard I didn't work this damn hard Not to leave my own mark This is part of the cycle This the part when you lose something you work so hard to gain But the universe will always have it's way To prove to you it wasn't a mistake This just part of the cycle And you have to learn to move out of it's way And you'll figure out the reason why someday I didn't make it this far (I didn't make it this far) Just to make it this far (Just to make it this far) I didn't work this damn hard I didn't work this damn hard Not to leave my own mark

Thanks to my friend Leslie Monique Perry who turned me onto Allen Stone a while back....
Allen Stone grew up singing in big church choirs and in one interview he describes his early influences were Kirk Franklin, Fred Hammond and Mary Mary.
In all of the songs I've heard so far, he embodies the spirits of Donny Hathaway, Marvin Gaye and has a lot of Stevie Wonder influence.
This first song below is my favorite. Not only does it groove for days and days, but Stone sings truth to power and the lines are priceless. Singing about the growing deficit, the government spending more than it takes in, and talking about encroaching government who pretends to care. That's just in the first verse and he's just getting warmed up. Besides the substance of the song itself, I especially love the way it was filmed. The audio and video crew on this first clip did a seriously amazing job capturing Stone's true essence. Enjoy! GC
Allen Stone - Unaware (live from his mother's living room)
Here is a great live performance and interview at one of the greatest indie stations on the planet, KEXP-FM. Stone performs five songs: What I've Seen at 0:38, Contact High at 3:22, Interview at 6:27, Unaware at 14:00, and Satisfaction at 20:00.

Came across this fantastic track by Stephanie McKay titled Tell It Like It Is. And this song should not be confused by a song of the same title that Aaron Neville first recorded in 1966. McKay's own song is a hard core serious one. It's a burning groove she has going with her soul on fire as she testifies to the harshness of life's realities. It's real. Turn it up, savor the flavor, think and enjoy. GC
When I first came across the fabulous artist named Nneka, I was lucky enough to stumble upon the artist in the video below, simply known as Ayo. She is not new and the song below was recorded for a album which was released in 2006 in parts of Europe.
A definite top MusicLoad.Com favorite that we've found hidden, this fine international lady has one of the sweetest voices. She lays her heart and soul right out on the table. She is very well known in France and Germany, especially, where she has platinum sales status as a recording artist, yet she is virtually unknown in the United States. It's a shame for now, but something we'd like to change. (Gregory J. Chamberlain)

Glyn Parry is a U.K. based soul artist with a slight hint of Michael McDonald, but definitely not emulating him. Glyn has a style all his own. If you dig old school soul music, check him out. He has three songs on his MySpace player at myspace.com/GlynParry
