Bettye LaVette

Most concise thing that can be said about Bettye LaVette is when she sings, she is as real as real gets. Just below is a fabulous take of a song titled I Still Want to Be Your Baby which as originally recorded by Eddie Hinton and titled Take Me Like I Am. This recording is from Bettye's 2007 album titled The Scene Of The Crime. Enjoy! GC

Femi Kuti - Beng Beng Beng

MusicLoad presents Femi Kuti - Beng Beng Beng

Here is a song with major groove and intensity. Femi's father, Fela Kuti, is well known as having been a deeply political artist, with Femi following in Fela's footsteps.  However, with this song, Femi takes it outside of politics and does something Ricky Martin could only dream of. This is pure sexy Cuban infused Nigerian soul that is like a universal language. Enjoy! GC

Avery*Sunshine - A Faulous Soul Artist with that "it" thing

I got lucky and came across Avery Sunshine last week. I first heard a studio version of her song entitled I've Got Sunshine and decided to go digging for more, spending a good hour or so listening to various YouTube clips and browsing her own MySpace.Com/AverySunshine page. I finally came across a stripped down version of I've Got Sunshine that was recorded on a single camera that must have been sitting on a tripod.

People that know me know that I gravitate towards artists who are un-manufactured and can lay it down with NO pomp, circumstance or slick production. Avery shows, in this video, that she can do that.

It gives me great pleasure to feature Avery*Sunshine. Enjoy! GC

Nneka - One of the hottest rising and truly global artists out there.

I had the privilege of meeting and chatting with one of my most favorite artists who I first heard back in early 2009 (read/hear Jan 2009 post) and immediately loved, musically. Her name is Nneka.

She and her music is political with depth. Nneka may not name names, but the political culprits she does sings of must know who they are. She does not mince words!

Nneka and her music has a activist substance that reminds me of few others, except for Bob Marley,

Her music has incredible edge, passion and truth at it's core.

The song in the video below is titled The Uncomfortable Truth. Enjoy! GC

Esperanza Spalding - A True Pure Jazz Heartist

MusicLoad.Com presents Esperanza Spalding

You may have already seen her on The Late Show with David Letterman or on Jimmy Kimmel Live and she has been in hundreds of places between here and there, even playing for heads of state and President Obama. But in this big bad world, artists who travel that wide can still remain too far under the radar. MusicLoad.Com is happy to be is just one more little venue for this inspired and gifted multi-genre jazz core artist.

Everything about Esperanza Spalding is a breath of fresh air. As a bassist myself, I appreciate any upright players who can sing and play upright at the same time and she takes it to a whole other level than most. Esperanza is as sweet and beautiful, as you will see in this local CBS TV interview and performance, as she is articulate with her vocals and jazz style. GC

Here is a great Esperanza Spalding performance as she plays electric bass and sings like a true jazz great on Jimmy Kimmel Live with her song entitled I Know You Know

A MusicLoad favorite band, SHEL, signs to Universal Republic Records.

The fine all sister group SHEL really blows my mind. The four sisters, Sarah, Hannah, Eva and Liza are real musicians and they know how to put on a performance. Their music is not manufactured. SHEL is the opposite of a pop star creations from American Idol. They are crafting their own songs, writing the arrangements and playing all of the instruments. Sure, they have guests and collaborators, but the girls are in the driver's seat. So, it was the greatest news to hear, that the group has signed to Universal Republic Records, a Universal Music Group (UMG) company. In their video below, they signed their contracts with Jethro Tull blasting in the background. Too cool. GC

Welcome to the MusicLoad Blog for 2010 - And our first picks, Engine-EarZ Experiment and Missy Andersen

Welcome to MusicLoad's new blog address at blog.musicload.com, the place that is taking off from our previous blog which still exists at MusicLoad.BlogSpot.Com. There, you can flash back and find several artists and bands that you may not have yet heard, but are fabulous.

Right here, the tradition continues as MusicLoad features the latest listens that we like that will not necessarily be posted to the front of our MusicLoad.Com site unless we secure the right to give you a free promotional mp3 as in the case of our first featured artist for this 2010 blog post.

Came across Engine-EarZ Experiment, a U.K. based project that is sonically badass.

LIVE!!!!! 'Reach You' - Engine-Earz Experiment ft Lena Cullen (She is Danger)

Just got done listening to to a totally different artist than the one above. Missy Andersen, a woman of definite traditional soul/blues heritage in her music and voice, ala Mavis Staples with a smoothness at times of Robert Cray. Missy's voice is pure! No contrived jive soul emitting from her pipes. She has a tight, laid back horn band that blows just right. The organ player and the other cats are dynomite, because they keep it tight.

She plays many gigs in San Diego, Califoria. We will be seeing her soon to snap some photos! The photos posted here are Missy's stock publicity photos.

To hear her music and learn more, go to Missy's personal webpage at MisseyAndersen.Com or her MySpace page at MySpace.Com/MisseyAndersenLive
